Benedicto College Cheetahs eked out a 76-74 win over the University of San Jose Recoletos Jaguars in the Collegiate Division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Incorporated 25th Season at the New Cebu Coliseum.
Trailing by a point, 73-74, andΒ with only 13 ticks left in the clock,Β Serge Gabines carried Benedicto College completed a three-point via a putback and bonus charity to secure an inaugual victory.
Samar native Gabines finished with an all around performance of 14 points, four rebounds, three blocks and two steals to cop the Player of the Game honors.
Jhon Loufred Diamante top scored the Cheetahs with 16 points while Fritz Gonzales dropped 16 markers for the opposing team.
In the game, the Jaguars were all business by leading as high as 14 markers and were on the driver seat, 72-71 in the final two minutes. USJR however, lost steam while Benedicto College came through with a gritty 5-3 offensive and a stellar defensive stance for victory.
Benedicto College joined theΒ University of San Carlos Warriors in the winner’s circle as USCstomped a master class victory of the University of theΒ Philippines Cebu Fighting Maroons, 69-55.
The Paul Joven mentored squad were never threatened as the Warriors had a biggest lead of 22 points.
Jhoernel Vince Tangkay exploded with 18 markers to win the Player of the Game accolade while Kyle Maglinte provided 17 points.
AJ Delos Reyes 20 point production led the Fighting Maroons’ cause.
Meanwhile in the Secondary Division,
USJR Baby Jaguars and Don Bosco Technical College Greywolves trounced their respective opponents.
DBTC defeated San Carlos School of Cebu, 67-62, while USJRΒ trounced Cebu Eastern Collge Dragons, 70-62.
